- Pavan Vilas Sondur CEO and co-founder : Done engineering in information and computer science from SJCE, Mysore. Previously worked with Gluster, a US based startup, that built GlusterFS. GlusterFS turned to a highly successful open source scalable file system which was later acquired by RedHat Corporation.
- Prashant Kumar CTO and co-founder : Done engineering from SJCE, Mysore. Previously worked with Tavant Technologies and huawei technologies ltd.
What motivated you to start your Business?
Prashant and I always longed to create and build a global product company from India. Both of us have always been interested in technology and wanted to build a product that would provide value for hundreds of businesses worldwide.
Tell us about your Business
Unbxd helps online retailers provide a unique shopping experiences for the millions of shoppers that visit their eCommerce store online. Visitors on eCommerce sites powered by Unbxd are more likely to find what they are looking for when they interact with the site. This allows eCommerce sites to convert more visitors to customers . Our products are personalized search & navigation, merchandising and analytics for eCommerce companies.
What is a Day in a life of you like?
Everyday in the office is different 🙂 We spend long hours in the office doing everything from solving interesting technical problems, making sales calls, planning our marketing efforts and helping our customers get the most out of our products.
One particular skill you got right and gave you best results.
That skill would be a deep insight into technology owing to my background as a developer. I’m able to take better decisions about our product and have a sharp assessment of it’s capabilities and challenges.
What have been your biggest challenges in running your Business so far?
Our biggest challenges are pretty much the same that any startup would face post starting up. We addressed each one of them and today we are tackling the challenges of building and scaling a global technology business based out of India.
How did you overcome these challenges?
Through clarity and focus. We break a bigger challenge into many smaller ones and overcome them one at a time. This sounds cliched – but they key to overcoming complex challenges for us has been in approaching them as multiple simple challenges.
What have you found the most effective way to get new clients?
Our most effective way has been sharing successive stories of our current clients and the obsession that the entire Unbxd Team shares with our customers. Whenever we get on to a call, get social or send emails to prospects our obsession for their success always shines through. We strongly believe that the only way for us to succeed as a company is to make sure every single one of our customers succeed in theirs.
What advice do you give to other business owners?
Be crazily obsessed about your customers.
How did you keep motivated through difficult times?
We, as a collective team of Unbxd believe in the idea of Unbxd and what we are set out to achieve. This is the most motivating factor for all of us through the ups and downs of a startup. We’re always focused on the end result – making Unbxd a truly valuable product company that solves some of the key pain points of every ecommerce company.
Whats Your Marketing, Funding and Team Building Strategy
We have raised money twice – a seed round from Indian Angel Network where we have worked with some of the finest advisors for startups in India. We raised our second round of funding, the Series A round from Inventus Capital and IDG Venture Partners in October of 2013 to build a global business. We are building the team that can take Unbxd from a young disruptive startup in India to a global business to be reckoned with.

My team inspires me everyday.
