What motivated you to start your Business?

I have been working with startups ever since college days. I started with programming and moved into product management and marketing. I did a bit of sales in my last job. Starting my own business looked like a natural move. The thought was always, it was just a matter of time and some learning before I took the plunge.

Tell us about your Business

FindYogi.com is shopping decision site that lets you compare products. The site lists detailed specifications of each product and quantifies the aggregate value in order to make it easier for consumers to decide. We also serve a value for money index that helps you understand if the current price of the product is justified, considering all other products in the market. We currently serve 2 categories, viz. mobiles and tablets.

What is a Day in a life of you like?

Since the business is still in its infancy, there is little work life balance. The day usually starts with checking reports from previous day. I list out any possible area of improvement that the report infers and discuss with the team. A lot of time goes into talking to people, whether it is potential investors, hires or media people for coverage. I am also directly involved into all aspects of product design and marketing.

One particular skill you got right and gave you best results.

Network. I wouldn’t call it a skill but an asset that I have built over years. I am still very young in this industry but the people I surround myself with are over 10yrs more experienced than I am. This network is giving me great results in all aspects of the business, right from product feedback to personal mentoring.

What have been your biggest challenges in running your Business so far?

Building and scaling up the team is always a challenge and it’s no different for us. As we look to scale, this will always stay the biggest challenge.

How did you overcome these challenges?

We plan for hiring well in advance and make it an ongoing process rather than a need based event. This is something that most startups should do else you might end up making desperate moves when you are really in need of people.

What have you found the most effective way to get new clients?

Building a great product. A good product that solves a pain and solves it well does the marketing for itself.

What advice do you give to other business owners?

There is lot of learning to do as an entrepreneur. Though one important thing in about being an entrepreneur is trusting and believing in people. You have to be very careful of who you choose to hire but once you’ve done that go all the way out and trust the person and always believe that the person will do his best. One other thing is about mistakes. You are going to do tons of mistake, don’t let a mistake take charge of your emotions. Just do whatever needs to be done to fix it, even if it means going a step back.

How did you keep motivated through difficult times?

One simple way we keep ourselves motivated through difficult times is by working together as a team and telling ourselves that there have been worse days which we have seen.

What are your Marketing, Funding and Team Building Strategy?

Starting early on and talking to lot of people before zeroing in with gut feel.

Whats your favorite quote?

The harder you try the luckier you get.

Who inspires you?

Fellow entrepreneurs. There are lots of them. Though JRD Tata, as a businessman who believed in inclusive growth, has inspired me the most.

Do you have a Business Philosophy?

I believe in building for long term and staying focused. I have learned this the hard way but this has stuck with me now.
