What motivated you to start your Business?

I always wanted to start something on my own and move off the beaten path and want to create something innovative. As always looking for a business opportunity, in February 2011 at my friend’s wedding an idea struck me, to start a wedding planning portal where to-be weds can get all the required information and make their tedious wedding planning experience comfortable. I discussed the idea with my brother and couple of my friends; we researched and found no noteworthy market player in the online wedding planning space. We proceeded to launch an online portal shaadimagic.com, a one stop shop for all wedding needs in the month of April 2011 where to-be weds can get all the required information to plan their dream wedding and make their tedious wedding planning experience easier.

Shaadimagic.com, is a wedding planning portal, one of its kind in India. Providing today’s to-be-weds with comprehensive wedding planning information, quality vendors listing, interactive tools, and resources with a fresh voice and real-world sensibility.

There is no one stop shop and Wedding planning being such an elaborate task, it becomes very difficult without a guiding hand. ShaadiMagic provides a step by step guide on how to plan and manage a wedding. Helping to be brides, grooms and their family from woes of wedding planning by providing all the information such as trends, planning tools, online shopping facility, nearby rated and reviewed vendors, experts and personalized wedding website option at same place.

What is a Day in a life of you like?

As an entrepreneur, I don’t have any fixed schedule it depends upon the tasks which I need to finish on that particular day. Sometimes I work till 4.00 am in the morning and the next day starts at 12.00pm. The regular day passes in innovation, tie-ups, marketing, team management etc. and party or hangs out with friends on weekend.

One particular skill you got right and gave you best results..

I guess the zeal to understand your customer as ShaadiMagic keeps on innovating its portal with new or improved services to help to-be weds plan their wedding better.

What have been your biggest challenges in running your Business so far?

The biggest challenge so far is to hire equally passionate team.

How did you overcome these challenges?

We are taking our time to hire best suitable talent instead of hiring wrong team for the operations.

What have you found the most effective way to get new clients?

The most effective way in consumer web space is to have good presence on social networking sites which would turn into more traffic and clients are coming themselves to us.

What advice do you give to other business owners?

One advice which I would give to have patience and self believe in your execution as it takes time to build a successful business.

How did you keep motivated through difficult times?

The belief that our portal is helping thousands of to-be weds every moment to create magic on their dream wedding keeps me motivated in difficult times.

What are your Marketing, Funding and Team Building Strategy?

We are focusing on social media space for our marketing efforts. We already have 50,000 plus Facebook fans which bring lots of to-be weds on our portal. It’s a bootstrap business so far and we are in touch with investors to scale up the operations. And for team building we are inclined towards hiring good candidate instead of increasing the head count.
