For the record, world had close to 7 Billion Population out of which 6 Billion People have Mobile phone and then Smart phone users is reaching to 50% of the users very soon.

Mobile marketing is broadly defined as “the use of the mobile medium as a means of marketing communication” or “distribution of any kind of promotional or advertising messages to customer through wireless networks”. More specific definition is the following: “using interactive wireless media to provide customers with time and location sensitive, personalized information that promotes goods, services and ideas, thereby generating value for all stakeholders”.

I think nowhere the definition mentions SMS marketing, the new way of Mobile Marketing is the interactive marketing. What i mean by this is you cannot force your customer to see your advertisement on mobile nor you can in TV too, all that you can do is provide relevant information and offers to relevant customers which is time and location sensitive and personalized to them.

Now this may look like a big task, but it isn’t if you plan your Mobile Marketing Strategy properly.

According to Morgan Stanley, in five years there will be more mobile internet users than desktop internet users. Not only that, more and more people want information on their fingertips literally speaking. Most of the people do a bit research about the product they are about to buy, using mobile internet. Whether you are ready for mobile or not, the world is moving to mobile. Here are some way in which you can use Mobile Marketing.

1. Mobile Marketing using QR Codes

QR code is a old technology but in India is not much explored, it is the best way to connect your customers to the virtual (Website) and real world.  Freely you can create your QR codes by typing the website url which you want to be opened when someone scans your QR code.

 

Brands are using QR codes along with the newspaper Ads, in Shopping malls, on the banner Ads etc. Anybody who is not online and is shopping, you can make them scan your code from the market place itself by using their smart phones and give the product details and promotions or discounts right there in the market place.

2. Mobile Marketing using Mobile websites

Have you tried to open your website in any mobile? It may shock you to see how your website may be shown in mobile, if it is not optimized for mobile website. Usually mobile website sizes vary from handset to handset, so you have to do a market research on how many people are accessing your website using mobiles and how many types of handset are used.

You can use a responsive theme or get some expert to get your mobile website designed.

Second point is to display only the most important links and pages in mobile version. you cannot put all the information on the mobile website as many mobile users are on data plan and dont want to open website which loads too many things and would cost them heavy. Mobile users top priority is to locate a store or to find discounts and deals.

3. Mobile Advertisements

You can use Google Adsense or any other service provider to display your ads in the mobile. Now a days Ad companies are investing a lot to understand the user better and show only relevant Ads to them. So this can work out better for you as your Advertisement will be reaching relevant customers

4. Location Based Services

Location Based services are offered by some cell phone networks as a way to send custom advertising and other information to cell-phone subscribers based on their current location. The cell-phone service provider gets the location from a GPS chip built into the phone. What this means is, if you have a local business, this will be best opportunity to attract your customer who is in close proximity.

5. Using Mobile APPs

This technique can be heavy on your pocket and have quite less chances of success as there are lakhs and lakhs of apps being created and marketed and comparatively very less are downloading. But if you have a effective plan for your website app it may become viral and give you amazing results.
