Google Analytics is implemented by including a JavaScript code in the website code. This code also known as  Google Analytics Tracking Code (GATC) adds onto every page of website. Now this code starts collecting data and sends it to Google server.

As the code contain JavaScript it only loads once during the website loading corresponding to user`s account number. Thiscode file (usually invoke within in code known as ga.js) is typically 18 KB in size which is downloaded once during the start of website visit and will be cached throughout the sessions.

Also that code also sets first party cookies on each visitor’s computer. These cookies also help to store information such as whether the visitor is the first timer or second timer, the timestamp of the current visit and also what was the traffic source (referral or direct).
