This Entrepreneurial Story is about Deepak Singhal who Founded ‘CraftedKids’ located in Bangalore, India.
About: Gaduated from NIT Bhopal in year 1999. Have 13 years of experience in IT field. Worked for companies like IBM and Integral in Bangalore and San Jose. His interest include Investments and playing table tennis. Founded Crafted Kids in March 2012
What Motivated you to start your Business?
I have a 4 years old daughter. We got her an ipad on her 3rd birthday. She was very good in solving puzzles. I was a proud dad wanting to show-case my daughter’s talent to this world. I could find many platforms to show-case talent in Singing or Dancing but no such national level platforms for puzzles or even drawing, essay writing or public speaking. Few of my friends even went to extent saying “You daughter is really very talented; now you should try to promote her in singing or dancing. She can really learn it fast and be famous soon” and this gave me an instant thought “Excuse me !! My daughter can pursure her interest in whatever area she wants to ! “ . And CraftedKids was born to help all parents like me.
Tell us about your Business:
Our vision is to provide a platform to kids for all sorts of skills other than singing or dancing. It is not that we do not admire singing or dancing, but those talents are already getting more than their fair share of attention, and there are more than enough platforms for kids with good singing and dancing abilities.
One particular skill you got right and gave you best results…
I am a technical guy; hence could bring the site up easily. So, that part was done easily and with best results.
What have been your biggest challenges in running your Business so far?
When I was starting with CraftedKids; I expected that the day I launch it, thousands of users would start pouring in as I am filling a space in the society. I was busy ramping up my cloud infrastructure to handle expected load. Nothing like that happened ever.
What advice to you give to other business owners?
Even when wheel would have invented; next day whole world would not have known about it and even if they did, they would not have left everything and went behind the wheel. So, even if you have a very good idea; give it reasonable time to thrive.
How did you keep motivated through difficult times?
Realization that even famous well known properties like “Kaun banega Crorepati” has to spend a lot to make people aware of it.
Whats your Your Marketing, Funding and Team Building Strategy:
Currently we are self-funded. Marketing included advertisements in National newspapers, Google Ad-words, collaborating with schools, Radio channels in Bangalore.

Believe in yourself.
Who inspires you?
Steve Jobs. Inspite of so many challenges during his life; he came out as a Star.
