Amazon unveils New Products today in press event in Santa Monica, CA

September 6th 2012 Amazon announced new products in its press event at CA

  1. “paperwhite” Kindle e-reader – Priced at $119 for the Wi-Fi only edition and $179 for the free 3G version, pre-orders open up today and starts shipping October 1. This product took 4 years of R & D and has amazing new features like “Time to Read” i.e., Kindle will track your reading speed and display time remaining for you to complete the book.   2. Price cut for $79 Kindle to $69 Kindle and kindle fire tablet will cost you $40 less. i.e., $159
  3. Entirely new tablet ‘Kindle Fire HD’ comes in two sizes, 7′ & 8.9′ . Both starts with 16 GB versions and will cost $199 and $299 respectively.
  4. 8.9′ tablet also comes in 32GB version with 4G LTE wireless for $499. Data plan: 250 MB per month. 20GB of cloud storage. $10 Amazon credit. The price? $50 a year. It ships November 20, and you can order it starting today [ipad3 cost $729]. Jeff Bezos says “We want to make money when people use our devices, not when they buy our devices.”.

Amazon is holding on to their strategy of NOT making money from the Hardware. Today Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos started off by citing that more than two dozen Android tablets were released into the marketplace last year, remarking that “nobody bought them. People don’t want gadgets anymore, he says, they want services that improve over time. Kindle Fire is a service.

Amazon is joining the league of Motorola, Nokia, HTC which hold events just before Apple’s event in San Francisco on September 12th.
