3G prices getting slashed

Its still difficult for many not to imagine Dial up connections, where you type www.google.com in IE and eagerly await 5 minutes for the site to appear. The  broadband has really revolutionized Internet usage in India. The internet penetration has been good in India. You might be surprised to find the 3G connectivity is still poor in due to the rates. Now, seeing the poor 3G adoption by users, Telecom companies are slashing the prices in India

History of 3G in India

India entered the 3G arena in 2008. The first in the league was MTNL in Delhi and Mumbai. BSNL and other private players like Bharti Airtel, Vodafone, Idea, Rcom everyone joined the league in 2010. The 3G services are available in all the Metro and cities round India. But the acceptance from the users has been very poor. A recent study also found that less than 5% of the mobile devices in India are 3G supported, less than 3% enabled 3G connectivity in their Network. The combined numbers will come to less than 1%. The main reason would be the pricing. Initial 3G deployment was also heavily criticized due to slow speeds and connectivity.

3G prices reduced in India

Bharti Airtel announced the price cut of 3G rates by more than 70 percent. This has been widely perceived for the inreasing usage of data services in India. Other mobile operators like Rcom soon followed with steep price cut of more than 90%. Vodafone, Idea soon followed the league with more than 60% rate cut.
